All pumpkins featured on this site were grown at Walsall Road Allotments in Birmingham

Plot 1 - The Pumpkin Patch

Where did the pumpkins for the Pumpkin Junction come from?

Plot 1 was an overgrown plot, just near the main entrance gate of Walsall Road Allotments.  In December 2004 a small group of people cleared all the rubbish off it.

In June 2005 Teresinha and Betty decided that the plot needed cheering up, so they planted about 100 pumpkin and squash plants on it.  Hardly any preparation was done, apart from digging the holes for the pumpkins and sprinkling chicken manure in them.

By August the plants had completely covered the plot.  A notice was placed at the front of the plot explaining what was being done.

Part of the harvest, picked in October

Teresinha washed them.........

Then they were left to dry in the sunshine

A few days later,  and the pumpkins are on the move.

As well as those grown on plot 1, many pumpkins were grown and donated by other plot holders.
